I have been drawing and painting all my life, studying a commercial art course with the Glasgow College of Commerce and the London College of Art. I started teaching in 1987. Then came a pause to raise my young family, during which time I continued to produce works for sale and exhibition.
I enjoy working in all art medium, specialising in charcoal and acrylic. Also working with water colours, oils and pastels etc. I choose my subject matter and my style as my mood takes me. I enjoy a wide range of themes including landscapes and seascapes. Often taking inspiration from our beautiful Scottish scenery, trying to capture its ever changing moods, but my passion is drawing and painting people.
My first solo exhibition was well received and resulted in the sale of a number of my paintings. Since then my work has been used in exhibitions to successfully raise money for charity. Most recently RNLI and Children in Need.
I am registered as a Professional Associate of the S.A.A. The Society for all artists. The aim of the society is the same as my own, which is "to inform, encourage and inspire all those who want to paint". This includes complete beginners, as the only qualification is a desire to paint.
I run classes locally in the beautiful surroundings of the Clyde Valley, an inspiration to any artist. These classes are designed for all abilities and beginners are welcome and encouraged. I also encourage my students to experience "plein-air" painting and sketching, whenever the weather is favourable. The aim of the class is to progress and develop their own natural abilities.
Art classes take place every Wednesday in the Stewart Street Centre, Carluke (10am-12noon) and in the Milton Rovers F.C. Burn Road, Carluke (7pm-9pm). Step-by-step and individual tutoring. Come along and discover the joy of creative expression!
What does my workshop involve?
Generally speaking a workshop includes a short demonstration of the medium involved and its versatility. Followed by tuition where you use the relevant materials to produce you own piece of art.
I am available to art societies, art groups, primary and secondary schools and any other organisations who would enjoy my services.
What do my demonstrations involve?
A demonstration is similar to a workshop but you get the chance to relax, watch and learn.
Again I am available to do this for any interested group.
